The 3-day practice match in Lahore has thrown up an interesting question for the Indian Team management : Who will partner Virender Sehwag in opening the innings ? Both candidates, Gautam Gambhir and comeback man Wasim Jaffer have put up a strong case for selection by performing in both innings of the warm up match. Gautam Gambhir gave India a couple of scintillating starts in the Sri Lanka ODI Series when he was given the opportunity as super sub, but his test form has been a cause for concern. Meanwhile Wasim Jaffer has had a terrific domestic season to get him back into the reckoning for the opening slot. At the same time, the pressure of trying to cement his place in the side coupled with pressure of playing the arch rivals could weigh heavily on his performance. Will the captain and coach stick to Gautam Gambhir favouring his experience against the Pak attack in the 2005 home series or will they give the plucky Jaffer a shot ? The answer to this question might well be a defining factor in the team's fortunes in the first test as the openers will have their hands full shielding the middle order from the Pak new ball bowlers, Akhtar and Co.
